Lincoln High School Academic Supports

The following supports are provided for students on an as-needed basis. For more information about these supports or how to access them, please contact your alpha counselor or Dave Clingan, LHS Academic Support Counselor.

Interventions/Resources:

• Student Support Team
The Student Support Team consists of our Vice Principals, school counselors, school psychologist, school nurse, RSO, and other support staff. The Team reviews the status of students who are struggling with academic or social/emotional concerns and identifies actions steps for supporting those students.

•  After School Tutoring
Free tutoring available for some subjects after school in the library. See library web site for details:

•  Staff Advisor 
Staff Advisors are assigned to at-risk students who have a history of failing core classes and need intensive guidance and support to earn all credits and essential skills required for graduation.

• Attendance Contract 
An attendance contract is an agreement between a student and the vice principal identifying specific attendance goals and rewards/consequences for meeting or not meeting those goals.

• 504 Plan 
A 504 Plan is a set of accommodations that are implemented by teaching staff to support a student with a professionally diagnosed physical or mental impairment that limits his or her ability to be successful in the classroom.

• Ind. Education Plan (IEP) 
An IEP is an Individual Education Plan that provides for classroom accommodations and specially designed instruction to support students with a qualifying disability.

• Peer Advocates
Peer Advocates are high achieving upper class students who provide tutoring and academic support to struggling students throughout the school year, usually in the Academic Support Center classrooms (see below).

• Flex
Flex is a 40 minute period which is an opportunity for all students to meet with teachers to review assignments, make up missed work, and get help in courses they may be having difficulty in.

• Synergy 
Synergy is an on-line data base that allows teachers to post detailed grading information and enables students and parents to track their academic progress throughout the school year. All students and parents have an access code that enables them to view this information.

• Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are opportunities for parents and students to meet with teachers early in the school year to discuss the students' academic progress and clarify teachers expectations for student success.

• Writing Center/Math Tutoring
The Writing Center is an after school support program every day in the school library in which students can get help with writing assignments. Math tutoring is also available after school in the library. Other free after-school tutoring sessions in various subjects are available (check library web site for schedule).

Support Classes:
Students may qualify for the support classes listed below based on need and circumstances. For more information about these classes, contact the student's individual counselor.

• Math Academic Support Center Class
Elective class for students needing extra support in math and study/homework time 2-3 times per week.

• Language Arts Support Center Class
Elective class for students needing extra support in English and study/homework time 2-3 times per week.

• Biology Support Classes 
Science support classes for selected general education students.

• Modern World History Support Class
World history support class for selected general education students

• Algebra 1-2, Geometry 1-2 and Algebra 3-4 Support Classes
Algebra support classes for selected general education students.

• Literacy & Math Essential Skills Class 
Support classes for selected general education students not meeting graduation benchmarks in reading, writing or math.

• AVID
Academic and study skills support for selected students (see counselor for more info)

• Virtual Scholars Credit Recovery
On-line credit recovery class for students needing to re-take a class for credit
• SpEd Study Skills Classes
Skills and support for students with Individual Education Plans.

• SpEd Language Arts & Math Support Classes
Math & Language support classes for students with Individual Education Plans.

• ELD Support Class
Support class for English Language Learners
